Please create 3 series for Baltix distribution - "Gutsy", "Hardy" and "Jaunty"

Asked by Mantas Kriaučiūnas

Please create 3 series for Baltix distribution (https://launchpad.net/baltix ) - "Gutsy" (milestones baltix-3.0 and baltix-3.1); "Hardy" (milestones baltix-3.5, baltix-3.6, baltix-3.7, and baltix-3.8) and "Jaunty" (milestones baltix-2009-rc and baltix-2009).

I'm asking for help because bug #211223 still isn't fixed and I (Baltix distro maintainer) can't register Baltix series my myself :( Because of missing series and milestones we (baltix developers) can't use bug tracking system effectively :(
I've noticed, that https://launchpad.net/guadalinex distro has registered series and cprov from #launchpad channel suggested me to file a question on launchpad product and then he promised to find someone to create it!

Maybe there is a possibility to register milestones by myself, in this case please just register the series and I will register milestones :)

Btw, there were registered 2 milestones for Baltix - breezy and dapper, If you have time please register "Breezy" and "Dapper" series for these milestones, but it's not so important, because these Baltix versions are old and unsupported now.

Also I've noticed, that when I go to https://edge.launchpad.net/baltix/+milestones I get an error:
Sorry, something just went wrong in Launchpad.
We’ve recorded what happened, and we’ll fix it as soon as possible. Apologies for the inconvenience.
(Error ID: OOPS-1296EA209)

It's interesting, that when I go to https://edge.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+milestones I always get a TimeOut Error !

ADDENDUM:
We want to create these series: breezy, dapper, gutsy, hardy, jaunty.
Set ~mantas as the driver of all series
Edit https://edge.launchpad.net/baltix/+milestone/dapper and set the series
Edit https://edge.launchpad.net/baltix/+milestone/breezy and set the series
Curtis will land changes in 1 week that gives a non-ubuntu distro drivers the power to create series, milestones, and releases. Many admin views will be fixed in this effort, and admins will not need to service these requests.

The broken +milestones page is cause by missing series. My project launchpad-registry was was/is also affected. The fix for the page has landed, but it is not on edge yet :(. You can still see the page and all the milestones on launchpad.net.

The broken pages probably would not have happen if you had the power to create and mange series and milestones. I will start working on this on my own time since my team already has the next two months of work booked.

In the mean time, I assign this question to a Launchpad admin to create the series and milestones. There is one other thing I think should be done. The admins should set you as the driver of each series (since you are not creating them) so that when my fix lands, you will automatically have the power to manage all series and milestones.

I just wonder if I will be able to add "feisty" serie later ? There were
several Baltix distribution milestones, based on Ubuntu 7.04 "Feisty",
and it would be nice to have this documented in "official" Baltix
development site :)

Yes you should have the power to create series as you wish.

I still don't see any series for Baltix at https://edge.launchpad.net/baltix/+series and can't find any way to add series by myself - I just see the text:
"Baltix has no versions registered yet"
:(

I've tried to release existing Baltix milestones, but when I press on button "Release now" at https://edge.launchpad.net/baltix/+milestones I'm redirected to https://edge.launchpad.net/baltix/+milestone/dapper/+addrelease and get and error:

Oops!
Sorry, something just went wrong in Launchpad.
We’ve recorded what happened, and we’ll fix it as soon as possible. Apologies for the inconvenience.
(Error ID: OOPS-1316ED159)

So, what should I do for helping to create at least 3 Baltix series - "Gutsy", "Hardy" and "Jaunty"?

Abject apologies for the delay!

I've just added the Gutsy series. But suspect we're information light atm.
https://edge.launchpad.net/baltix/gutsy

Not sure how many (if any?) of the details you can change here:
https://edge.launchpad.net/baltix/gutsy/+edit

I set the version string as "3.0", but that also may not be desired.
===

In summary, on each series creation we need:
* The name of this series.
* The series displayname.
* The title of this series. It should be distinctive and designed to look good at the top of a page.
* A brief summary of the highlights of this release. It should be no longer than a single paragraph, up to 200 words.
* A detailed description of this series, with information on the architectures covered, the availability of security updates and any other relevant information.
* The version string for this series.
* Parent series; The series from which this one was branched. <== this is typically Ubuntu: the Gutsy Gibbon etc.

If you *can* edit these on the Gutsy one, I'll just create the simple fill like I've done for gutsy; if not; let me know what you want in there and I'll make it so.

Cheers!
- Steve

Steve, Mantas:

I have landed the fix that allows derivative distribution owner to create series and milestones. I understand that Edge will be updated Saturday August 15, and at that time Mantas will be able to do as he likes, which includes editing series and milestones. I do not think he can edit the series until that time,.

BTW name and version information are still controlled by admins once they are created. I am waiting for feedback to know if I can move version to release manager. Steve you will need to make Mantas the driver of each series, because that will ensure he has edit on the series and milestones.

Hi Curtis,

It's sad to say, but I still can't to create new Baltix distribution series or to release existing milestones :(

1. I don't see any link or button for creating new milestone at https://edge.launchpad.net/baltix/+series :(

2. I've got an error when I pressed on button "Release now" in Baltix milestones page (https://edge.launchpad.net/baltix/+milestone/breezy/+addrelease ):

Oops! Sorry, something just went wrong in Launchpad.
We’ve recorded what happened, and we’ll fix it as soon as possible. Apologies for the inconvenience.
(Error ID: OOPS-1335EA182)

Btw, I also noticed one more bug since your changes - now I can't assign Baltix bugs to exact packages - for example when I tried to assign bug #415908 to Baltix (see https://bugs.edge.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/pidgin/+bug/415908/+distrotask ) I got an error:
u'Package pidgin not published in Baltix' :(
Should I report a but about this? Please tell me against which product if so.

I've made a small mistake in my previous post - I wrote "new milestone" instead of "new serie" in 1. Should be
1. I don't see any link or button for creating *new serie* at https://edge.launchpad.net/baltix/+series

Hi Steve,

I'm allowed to change brief summary and detailed description of Baltix Gutsy series, which were created by you (https://edge.launchpad.net/baltix/gutsy/+edit). It seems I'm also allowed to change series displayname and title of series but I didn't tried to change this because I don't understand the difference between "The name of series" and "The title of series" :(

Some of series properties I don't see at all on https://edge.launchpad.net/baltix/gutsy/+edit :
* The version string for this series.
* Parent series.

Also I get a permission error if I try to change value of Status (Select the distroseries status.) dropdown list.

Version string "3.0" for Gutsy serie is ok, for other series version strings should be:
"Hardy" serie should have 3.x or 2008 in version string
"Gutsy" serie should have 4.x or 2009 in version string

HI Mantas.

The (+) Create release should not be displayed. I will remove it this week. The link is for projects, not distros

I believe you can create a series from the distro page
    https://edge.launchpad.net/baltix
using the (+) Add series link

The 'name' is a bad field name, we mean launchpad-id, the part that appears in the URL
    eg. https://edge.launchpad.net/baltix/karmic

The version is a dotted number, it follows the form used by Debian
    eg. 09.10

The parent series is the series that is the base for the packages. This can be empty, but if you are traking Ubuntu series you should enter the ubuntu series

I don't see "(+) Add series" link nor at https://edge.launchpad.net/baltix nor at https://edge.launchpad.net/baltix/+series

Could you tell me the exact URL for adding new serie?

Opps. The permissions on the link do not match the permissions on the
view. I need to fix that so that you can see the link on the Baltix's
front page. You do have access to:
    https://edge.launchpad.net/baltix/+addseries

Where you can provide the name (launchpad-id in the url), displayname,
title (for the browser and header). For Parent series, choose the Ubuntu
version that is most like the series you are registering,

We created series for the two orphaned milestones. As you are the release manager of the series, you are now the effective owner of them. https://edge.launchpad.net/baltix/+milestones

Can you help with this problem?
