Please approve my translation templates

Asked by Aron Xu

Hi,

I've just set up a project called 'Chinese Document Project'[1] and I will use it for translating documents like gimp-help[2] to Chinese, I've set the permission of the project 'Structured' and assigned it to 'Ubuntu translator' group. In this way I will let the translators help translate them into Chinese. Because I cannot restrict the translations only done to Chinese, I will let everyone know on the preface of the project, and tell them if they want to use the same way of translation, I can help them. I am a member of GNOME Simplified Chinese translation them and have the access of GNOME repository, translating gimp-help can be difficult only using .po files as everyone can see. If you think this project is not very suitable, please change it's URL to https://launchpad.net/gimp-docs, then I will change the title of it to Gimp document translations or something like that, and announce it's not official gimp-doc translations but a tool for help.

Thanks for your time.

Aron

Hi Aron,

So, to allow this, this is what we'd have to do. You'd have to use GNOME Translation Project instead of Ubuntu translators and use 'Restricted' permissions: this means that only actual GNOME translation teams who have decide to use Launchpad for some translations would be allowed to translate it.

Then, you'd need to ask for GNOME l10n zh_CN team lead (Funda Wang, according to http://l10n.gnome.org/teams/zh_CN) permission to set up a GNOME zh_CN team in Launchpad, and then we'll add it to https://translations.launchpad.net/+groups/gnome-translation-project. Ideally, Funda Wang would set the team up and you'd be added as a member.

Then, we'd have to do this under the "gimp" project, since this is part of GIMP, if I am not mistaken. This further means that we'd have to set translation permissions up. Also, you'd have to commit yourself to syncronizing POT files from upstream GNOME regularly.

Basically, the question boils down to: how committed are you to actually maintaining POT files in Launchpad? It's going to take a lot of your time, but if you just want to import it once, and have no plans on maintaining it, we'd have to say no to your import request.

Cheers,
Danilo
