Localisation of Ewondo Language (ewo)

Asked by uj

Ewondo is mostly spoken around the Cameroonian capital Yaoundé. But more interesting may be the fact that is belongs to the language group called A.70 (Beti-Bulu-Fang). The differences between the languages of this are The speaker of these languages don't have any major problems to communicate one to another. So in fact the A70 is language (or language group) what is spoken in the entire Region between the Sanaga and the Ogowe-River, (Southern-Cameroon, Mainland Equatorial Guinea, Northern Gabon and parts of Congo-Brazzaville). It has the same function as a lingua franca as the Lingala, spoken around the Congo river system.
So it will be useful to make translations only for A70 (Beti-Bulu-Fang) instead of Ewondo (ewo) or Fang (fan).
Unfortunately there is no common practice on writing in this language. The ILA translations are not used so that the application of Beti-Bulu-Fang in Ubuntu will be very helpful for the promotion of a writing culture.

Thank you for the information. We follow the ISO-639 standard, so any chances to the classification of these languages would have to happen there.

Meanwhile I've updated our description of Ewondo to say that the language is spoken in Cameroon.
