It's accessible right now from here (via http and ldap protocols), are you sure this is not a localized problem to your network? You may want to try again or try via a proxy.

Fethi DILMI (addictcook) said : #2

I've a PPPoE connection , how can I check ????

Fethi DILMI (addictcook) said : #3

I asked other people , they told they sufer from the same problem these days , ok thanks too much.

Fethi DILMI (addictcook) said : #4

... And other says that it is inaccessible , I don't know why !! Can you tell me what should I do to check my connection.

Chris Jones (cmsj) said : #5

The keyserver is definitely functioning correctly at the moment and is accessible from the Internet.
Are you perhaps behind a firewall which is blocking port 11371?

Perhaps try another public keyserver as well?

Craig Huffstetler (xq) said : #6

Can you ping the keyserver? Run a trace route to it?

Fethi DILMI (addictcook) said : #7

how to ping it ?? i don't know how + I've installed Firestarter by i've disabled it + I tried to connect to keyserver from firefox under linux and from internet explorer under windows , but it show me that the server doesn't repond while you are saying that it does.

Fethi DILMI (addictcook) said : #8

The problem is I can't also send the key to other servers. I don't know why ?????

Craig Huffstetler (xq) said : #9

You can go to Applications > Accessories > Terminal

And type:

ping -c 50 keyserver.ubuntu.com

And paste the final results (usually about 3 lines here) after it completes. It should take less than 1 - 5 minutes depending on your connection speed. It will tell us if you have any problems connecting to the server.

Have you tried using Seahorse, the graphical end to GPG, to send your keys to a keyserver? If not, try it.

Applications > Accessories > Passwords and Encryption Keys

Select the key you wish to synchronize. Then click Remote > Sync & Publish Keys.

Remember, you can also select a different keyserver if the above is the only one giving you an issue (which it may very well be). Go to Edit > Preferences. Where it says Publish Keys To...select a different default server (such as keyserver.pgp.com). This is on a different port altogether. This would help us troubleshoot if it is indeed that single port. The MIT keyserver is on the same port. I suggest you try publishing to keyserver.pgp.com.

Thanks,

Craig

Ok ; I made the ping command it has done this:

Concerning The GUI , I tried it , but it doesn't work , it can't synchronize the key because it can't access to keyserver.ubuntu.com

Craig Huffstetler (xq) said : #11

The ping results indicate that you can indeed "ping" the said server...with 0% packet loss. That means there is no network connectivity issue.

Again, can you try to use a different server rather than keyserver.ubuntu.com?

Fethi DILMI (addictcook) said : #12

I can enter to other servers from firefox , but when I send the key via
terminal or firefox , the same problem happens , I can't send it !!!

Is there anyone who faced this problem!! I'm waited 5 days !!!

Guilherme Salgado (salgado) said : #14

Can you access http://keyserver.ubuntu.com:11371/ using your browser? If you can then you can open your key in a text editor and paste its contents there to submit it.

Fethi DILMI (addictcook) said : #15

No I can't . Neither from firefox not from another . I tried to connect to this website from windows , and it doesn't connect too.

Fethi DILMI (addictcook) said : #16

I said before that I can't !! I don't understand why.

This is either:

a) a local problem with your NETWORK;
or
b) a local problem with the computer you are on.

----> Can you please try to do this from:
a) another location (I.E. a WiFi coffee bar if you are on a laptop)?
or if you have a phone that allows tethering try doing it from there (Blackberry, etc.)?
That will eliminate A.

b) If it is the computer, simply try sending your GPG key from another computer on your network. Or a computer at a community center etc. (wherever, even at a friend's house...). You can use the keys website and a simple USB drive. This would eliminate #2.

I am betting on #1.

After you have done this (and I am betting it will work) we can try to see what the problem is/was. But we are not getting enough information to troubleshoot the problem here. Your frustration is understandable, but please understand we are just trying to help and we are all just volunteers in the community. There is no need to "yell" or use "explanation points" to try to bait us into feeling angry. We are *not* support representatives. Again, I feel your frustration and I do indeed want to help. There are just many unknowns in this equation...

What is your network setup like? You mentioned another P.C. Are you behind a router...? How is it configured?

Please try the above.

Sincerely and respectfully,

Craig

Craig Huffstetler (xq) said : #18

I can also recommend, for you to get more visibility on this item, reopening it on the main page (after you try the above please) by going to:

https://answers.edge.launchpad.net/launchpad/+addquestion

For your Summary question please enter/copy+paste (I'll make this easy since I know this has been rough):

gpg: keyservers fail every time no matter keyserver selection, http connection fails too

Hit continue.

For your description you can be brief since I'm going to have you link to this question for people to view what we've already tried. However, please provide information on your network setup (router/firewall, blocked ports, etc.), Ubuntu version, firewall applications or antivirus applications installed (firestarter? or anything else...), etc.

Then simply state what you stated above (feel free to copy and paste this):

- I can not send my GPG key to any key server using the command line using:
fethi@fethi-desktop:~$ gpg --send-keys --keyserver keyserver.ubuntu.com <My key>
gpg: sending key <My key> to hkp server keyserver.ubuntu.com
gpg: keyserver timed out
gpg: keyserver send failed: keyserver error

I also can not access:
http://keyserver.ubuntu.com:11371/
Via my browser.

I have also tried using other keyservers such as MIT's and keyserver.pgp.com. These also failed.

I also used Seahorse (Applications > Accessories > Passwords & Encryption Keys). These also failed even when selecting a different primary keyserver for syncing the selected key.

I do not know what to do. No matter what I try sending/syncing my key fails.

Please reference: https://answers.edge.launchpad.net/launchpad/+question/70532 for information and the help I received before (unsolved).

Thanks!

Fethi DILMI (addictcook) said : #19

1- A local problem from my computer , it is impossible !! i checked everything concerning this issue.

2- A network problem ; May be , because I Have "Easy" connection (Algeria) , Many Easy users can't access to that website; and from "Fawri" they can access to this website. Both of easy and fawri are PPPoE connections.

I have a laptop and another PC. I tried under the pc (using windows) but it doesn't connect to keyserver. but the laptop , i've not tried yet (it uses jaunty too).

Sorry friend , I haven't got angry , because I'm suffering from this problem there is 5 days . And I'm sorry If I made you think so.

Guilherme Salgado (salgado) said : #20

It looks like you're behind a firewall which doesn't allow you to connect to any host on that port. Can you try submitting your key through http://pgp.mit.edu/

To do that you have to run the following command on the terminal:

    gpg -a --export <your-email-address>

And then copy and paste the output of that command into the 'Submit a key' text area of the http://pgp.mit.edu/ page.

Fethi DILMI (addictcook) said : #21

I'm behind a firewall !!! I I installed Firestarter to desactivate the firewall. The service is disabled .

I tried that command before , but I try to submit the content to http://pgp.mit.edu/ page , firefox , shows me the error of Time Out !!! .

Guilherme Salgado (salgado) said : #22

Feel free to email me your ascii-armored public key and I'll upload it for you.

Fethi DILMI (addictcook) said : #23

OK , I'll email it right now , but try to upload it on
keyserver.ubuntu.com, because I'll use it for launchpad.
