Launchpad.net translation tool

Asked by Vardan

Hello

I have a question related with Launchpad web translation tool.
Can you provide that tool us?

How we are?
We are the team which is working on Hrat GNU/Linux OS (http://www.debian.am/index.php/en/hrat).
We want to add that tool in our site and start translate the software that we want to add in the Hrat GNU/Linux.

Be cause there are a lot of softwares that don't use Launchpad and we couldn't translate them by web.

Regards,
Vardan Gevorgyan

There is no specific tool to provide. Launchpad is the tool. We cannot provide Launchpad's code at this time, but we will be releasing the code:

I don't think this will help you though. If projects are not willing to accept translations from Launchpad, then they are unlikely to accept translation that another web project would create.

The advantage of Launchpad is that it holds and shares translations from both projects it hosts and upstream projects that are willing to accept Launchpad translations--translating is often a simple task of selecting and editing a similar translation from the millions of message we have in our database.

Give the infrastructure issues involved in translating other projects, I think you will be more successful at registering the projects in Launchpad (if they are not already registered), and then doing the translation in Launchpad for them (which is what you are essentially proposing). You can upload the POT and PO for the projects, or register the location of the source code and Launchpad can extract that information for you. You can export the PO files and send them to the upstream projects.

Can you help with this problem?
