Is it possible to upload data tarballs to an LP team or project?

Asked by Eduardo Barretto

If we generate some kind of data and we compress it.
Would it be possibleto easily leverage LP infrastructure and upload that data to an LP team or project? That way external parties that are part of the team or project can have access to the data, and perhaps can wget the data.

You could use project release files, if that makes sense - we don't know whether this data relates to a release or abuse a git repository. But, in general, Launchpad doesn't provide general-purpose file storage and hosting.

what exactly are project release files?
The idea would be to generate OVAL data (an XML file, compressed to bz2) for a given ppa and distribute it inside the ppa if possible.

We don't have a solution for this yet, but it came up at the roadmap sprint and we agreed to put it on our 23.04 roadmap. The security team will need to operate a service that generates the data and makes it available in some way that we can fetch regularly; this would be analogous to the AppStream and command-not-found data generators, which expose their results over rsync.

Can you help with this problem?
