On username changes and availability

Hello,

I did some preparation to change my username to "athos" just to realize that was not possible. LP reports it is taking, although launchpad.net/~athos returns 404.

Now, I believe this may be due to different reasons, such as there is an active private team with that name, or someone had that username in the past and it got deleted but there's some left overs, etc.

While trying to understand the issue, I came across [1], which tells me it should be possible to claim the name in case it is an inactive/never used/deleted account. I also found several instances of such requests with successful outcomes [2].

So, in case that is not an actual private team, would it be possible for me to have that username?

You're guess is correct, that is an existent account, unfortunately you'll need to pick a different name.

I see. In case that is a team, would it be possible to request an alias change for my @ubuntu.com email?

The alias is taken from your Launchpad username so it will be: <email address hidden>. If you change your Launchpad username I believe there will be up to 48 hour delay until this takes effect. If you have issues with ubuntu.com alias creation or updates please email <email address hidden> with a link to your Launchpad profile and the details of the issue.
