can not set my new gpg key

Asked by estellnb

I have created and uploaded a new gpg key to hkp://keyserver.ubuntu.com. When I posted the fingerprint for key installation I got an email which I could not decrypt:

> gpg --output launchpad-key-ack.msg.eml.txt --decrypt launchpad-key-ack.msg.eml.txt.gpg
gpg: Prüfsummenfehler; aab7d6 - dc3aab
gpg: "quoted printable" Zeichen in der ASCII-Hülle gefunden - möglicherweise
 war ein fehlerhafter Email-Transporter("MTA") die Ursache

It says "checksum error". I have let another mail be sent to me in case the first one had not been transmitted correctly but with the same result. The correct key is installed. Some hours before I had a smaller key (not 4096 bit) and there decryption did work.

Could you please tell me the command how you created the GPG key?

I then try to reproduce the issue.

Thank you!

> gpg --full-generate-key
selected rsa/rsa, 4096bit, everything possible: signing, encryption
The same key works for Debian/mentors.

I have tried it a third time and now the emails seems to have arrived untampered: It decrypted without problems and I have successfully installed my new gpg key.

Thanks for your reply.

I just created a new key with your settings and it all works as expected.

I pasted everything between

-----BEGIN PGP MESSAGE-----

and

-----END PGP MESSAGE-----

into a message.gpg file and decrypted it via...

```
gpg --decrypt message.gpg
```

Then I saw a message with a link which I needed to click the link to verify my new gpg key.

So it looks to me that the issue is your `launchpad-key-ack.msg.eml.txt.gpg` - could you try to follow my approach of copying just the relevant info into a new text file? And then decrypt it?

Please report back whether this worked out.

However now I have another question: I would like to update the xchroot-2.4-1 package I had uploaded before, but I do not know the correct upload path:
Could not find a PPA owned by 'estellnb' for 'ubuntu' named 'ppa'.

~/.dput.cf:
[ubuntu-ppa]
fqdn = ppa.launchpad.net
method = ftp
incoming = ~estellnb/ubuntu/ppa/
login = anonymous
allow_unsigned_uploads = 0

Yes, I had copied everything from the start line "---" to the end line "--" into launchpad-key-ack.msg.eml.txt.gpg. It just contains the plain message. I did it the same way on my third email and this time it did work. Likely, to my believe the email has not been transmitted correctly. Otherwise there would not be a checksum error. It would be a good question however whether it would still have been possible to decrypt.

I mean the email could have been tampered intentionally: https://www.elstel.org/ViewRSS.php?guid=7406&lang=en#7406
