ubuntu-cve-tracker git https acceptable rate

Asked by Shmuel Herzberg

Good afternoon,

In the answer to https://answers.launchpad.net/launchpad/+question/696691, Colin had said that if we're going to clone the repo a non-trivial number of times, we should avoid using SSH. I wanted to clarify what would be an acceptable rate to pull the cve tracker using SSH. If I pulled it every 10/15/30 minutes, would that be slow enough that you would feel comfortable with me using SSH? I saw in https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu-cve-tracker/+bug/1925337 that the user had done it 2000 times a day, so hopefully my doing it < 25 times a day is acceptable.

Thank you!

Can you clarify the context here? Are you talking about a single client, or are you talking about code that will be embedded in a tool that runs on many clients?

We'll be running a single client. E.g. if we ran it every 15 minutes, the total number of queries you'd get in a day is 4/hour × 24 hours = 96.

That'll be entirely lost in the noise, so that doesn't sound like a problem at all. (Also, if it's just pulling an existing clone rather than cloning afresh each time, that also reduces the load.)

Thanks for asking!

Can you help with this problem?
