Git reports a garbage temporary file when pushing to it

Asked by Stefan Bader on 2021-03-02

I only noticed that yesterday but since then I get the following warning whenever I push updates to

https://git.launchpad.net/~ubuntu-kernel/ubuntu/+source/linux/+git/bionic

"remote: warning: garbage found: ./objects/pack/tmp_pack_nHx7gZ"

Is it possible to clean this up server-side? Thanks.

Hi Ioana,

the bionic repo seems to be fixed now. But now the same or at least something similar is reported for xenial:

https://git.launchpad.net/~ubuntu-kernel/ubuntu/+source/linux/+git/xenial

Should a new question be created or is it ok to add to this (at least as new garbage appears before declaring it good once)?

Thanks,
Stefan

Hi Stefan

Thanks for confirming.

It's ok to add to this one, I've initiated a repack for the second repository (https://git.launchpad.net/~ubuntu-kernel/ubuntu/+source/linux/+git/xenial).

Give it 20 minutes and if the problem persists for the Xenial repository please come back to us on this question and we'll look at it again, if it's ok please let us know so we can close the question.

Thanks,
Ioana

Hi Stefan

We're working on restoring order to Xenial repo server-side as we speak, I'll come back to you here when that process is finished.

Manfred it is similar indeed, will update here as soon as we are ready for Stefan to test again.

Hi Stefan

The Xenial repo should now be back to normal.

When you have a chance please let us know if you're still seeing any issues with it.

Thanks!

Received feedback from a co-worker that warnings (not sure exactly the same) are still happening on xenial repo.

Hi Stefan

Thank you for the feedback.

I just a test push to Xenial repository and saw no warning. I think the best thing to do is to close this as it seems to have solved the initial issue and kindly ask your colleague for me to please open a separate question for the warning he/she is encountering and to please include a snippet of it in the question (in a similar manner to the one included by the reporting user in https://answers.launchpad.net/launchpad/+question/695875). I suspect this might be a clone repository and the snippet will help us troubleshoot faster.

Thank you.
