Possible to iImport mailist archive into an newly created launchpad maililist?

Asked by Daniel Șerbănescu

Hello, I represent a Linux User Gruoup (SSLUG https://sslug.dk/) with in-person meetups and we had a self-hosted mail list dating 1998 which died a few years back. Since we promote Linux and Ubuntu for newcomers we would like to reach the online community as well.
And we want to revive our mailing lists.

Amongst other things launchpad offers Teams with mailing lists. If we create a team would it be possible for an admin to import a couple of .mbox files so we keep the history of the threads from 1998.

If the import is possible it will do a great searvice reaching out more people in the danish Linux/Ubutu community.

Thanks in advance,
Daniel

We do have an internal process document explaining how to do this (for staff: https://wiki.canonical.com/ImportingMailingListArchives), although as far as I know it hasn't actually been used in years so may need some fixing up. Its preamble says: "To proceed with the import, the user must provide the archive mbox file of the mailing list she wants imported, and the mailing list must exist on Launchpad already. It is highly desirable for there to have been no Launchpad list traffic before the import, but see below for instructions for merging existing mbox files."

Thanks Colin, I do not have access to read that wiki, but I guess It answers my question. I'll talk to the other members of our group in order to make the decision about creating launchpad mailing lists.

Thanks again
