Why commercial project support is discontinued?

Asked by Chris on 2019-01-26

I wanted to automate build and distribution of a closed-source project using Launchpad. The website still contains references to a "commercial plan" in few places, but Answers FAQ (https://answers.launchpad.net/launchpad/+faq/208) says it is discontinued.

How a commercial project can get approval? What is the process? What would be the cost?

I tried to contact launchpad staff via <email address hidden> and support@, as stated in FAQ, but I never got any response.

We discontinued the purchasing mechanism for Launchpad's commercial facilities because we were going to have to make non-trivial changes to the purchasing mechanism to comply with the GDPR, and in any case it wasn't economical for Canonical to administer it.

As far as I know it should still be possible to get this sort of thing approved, but you'll need to talk to a Canonical sales rep. https://launchpad.net/+tour/join-launchpad#commercial links to https://www.ubuntu.com/support/contact-us for this.
