Launchpad translations - bulk convert to UTF-8

Asked by Arthur Borsboom

I am maintainer of an desktop application called Xpad for which I use Launchpad.
A package maintainer of Debian pointed out that several translations are not in UTF-8.

I have little experience with the translations; from my point of perspective it magically works. :)

Is there a simple way to convert all the non UTF-8 translations to UTF-8 translations, without breaking the workings of the Launchpad translation mechanism?

Does anybody have a suggestion for an easy approach to fix this?

Thanks in advance.

The simplest approach is almost certainly to download the .po file, run it through "msgconv -t UTF-8", check that this hasn't corrupted anything, and upload the result. Have you tried that?

No, I have tried that.

It sounds like a great advice, so I will try this in the upcoming weeks.

Can you help with this problem?
