What changed in OAuth?

Asked by Phillip Susi

I use OAuth to log into askubuntu.com, and it used to ask me for my password, and whether I wanted to share my full name and email address with askubuntu. Now it asks me what access to launchpad I want to give to askubuntu, including access to modify private bugs. I don't want to give them any access to launchpad, only to attest to my identity, but if you choose no access, then you are not logged in to askubuntu.

This was a change on the AskUbuntu side. I think the Stack Exchange code dropped support for OpenID against login.ubuntu.com / login.launchpad.net, and OAuth against launchpad.net was the only option they had left, but that's just a vague memory; you should ask them.

For what it's worth, giving it only access to read non-private data isn't *too* terrible, and seems to be enough to permit logging in.

Can you help with this problem?
