"as soon as possible" should not be > 12 hours away (imports)

Asked by Jason Gross on 2018-03-17

The repo https://code.launchpad.net/~jgross-h/coq/+git/coq-packaging has said "The next import is scheduled to run as soon as possible. " for the past 12 hours or so, making it impossible for me to request an import. How do I request an import when it says "The next import is scheduled to run as soon as possible. "?

Our main code import machine failed and we're relying on a single very old machine to service the queue, so it isn't keeping up well. We should have replacement hardware in place next week, at which point the backlog will clear.

In the meantime, the import will run as soon as it can manage it, and being able to request the import again wouldn't speed things up.

Thanks for the prompt response. If that's the case, why was I able to request an import on another git repo (https://code.launchpad.net/~jgross-h/coq/+git/coq) which ran within a couple of minutes of the request?

I don't know the queue ordering there very well, but I believe that manually-requested jobs currently always come ahead of automatically-scheduled jobs, and (as you've observed) once an automatically-scheduled job is pending you can't make a manual request. This is probably not completely ideal in every way but it's not an issue when the importers are keeping up, as is normally the case ...

The failed machine has been replaced, and the queue is processing quickly again.

@wgrant I wonder if there are troubles again? My projects that are sitting at "will import as soon as possible" seem stuck while others that I manually request to import are running quickly.

Ones "stuck": https://code.launchpad.net/~wasta-linux/wasta-multidesktop-xenial/+git/wasta-multidesktop-xenial
https://code.launchpad.net/~wasta-linux/wasta-core-xenial/master

One I manually imported and ran quickly: https://code.launchpad.net/~wasta-linux/wasta-multidesktop-bionic/+git/wasta-multidesktop-bionic

Thanks for letting us know. There was a firewall error that broke things, but it's now fixed.

@cjwatson thanks for the quick reply. Indeed everything seems to have imported now. Thanks again for all the effort from you and your team over the years.
