Error when updating ubuntu xenial Release

Asked by Staffan

I'm on a VPS with Ubuntu 16.04 TLS and want to install a web server with EasyEngine. When I use the command "apt-get update", I get this error:

W: The repository 'http://ppa.launchpad.net/canonical-kernel-team/pti/ubuntu xenial Release' does not have a Release file.
N: Data from such a repository can't be authenticated and is therefore potentially dangerous to use.
N: See apt-secure(8) manpage for repository creation and user configuration details.
E: Failed to fetch http://ppa.launchpad.net/canonical-kernel-team/pti/ubuntu/dists/xenial/main/binary-amd64/Packages 403 Forbidden
E: Some index files failed to download. They have been ignored, or old ones used instead.

What can I do to fix this?

"403 Forbidden" means that you do not have the rights to access this PPA.
Do you really need this PPA?
If yes, then you have to request access rights (no idea whom to ask for that)
If no, then just remove this PPA from your list of repositories (in one of the configuration files in /etc/apt/sources.list{,.d/*})

Thank you Manfred, that seemed to help!

Hopefully, I don't need that PPA, I'm not sure.

Anyway, I could install my Easy Engine site.

Kind regards
Staffan
