Why is there still no comment/user report/flag system?

Asked by pbhj

This was raised as a bug at least 6 years ago: why is there no simple way to have spam comments removed and the users flagged for removal or hellbanning or whatever?

Is this not a priority. I note that the 3 Answers sections I've visited, including this one, have several spam comments visible on them. This detracts from the nature of Launchpad a lot IMO. It makes it appear to be unmaintained and gives a strong "low quality" indicator. I don't think either of those things is true but the appearance of it will be deleterious.

There's a huge invested user base here who could easily work to remove spam and spammers v. quickly.

Is it lack of web dev resources to implement such a system? Or, no will to do so?

Our automated systems catch the vast majority of spam. Occasionally some things slip through, but I can't see any recent stuff in Answers that has -- do let us know here if you find something specific.

We'd like to have built-in spam reporting functionality, but the problem isn't big enough today to trump other features and make it to the top of our roadmap. We'd happily accept a patch to add it now, and if spam starts repeatedly slipping through our automated systems the manual reporting feature would become more of a priority for us.

Two frewh topics from user "sobafed",

Unfortunately in the last two month I regularly see spam "slipping through" on SikuliX board (5+ were removed earlier this day, and lt was like 20+ spam topics created in the last two month).

The previous spam account created 2 more topics and got deactivated, but one more appeared just now:

One board, 7 spam topics in 2 hours.

Not to bug you, but to show you that the problem really looks bugging.

We're aware of the current scope of the problem, yes. Please don't report spam in this particular question, though.

(To be clear, since William said "here", I'm reasonably sure that they meant "on https://answers.launchpad.net/launchpad/+addquestion", not "in this particular question".)

Is there any current work done on this task, any blueprints or other direction already been established. I'm not sure my coding chops are up to it but I may have time to address it in the New Year.

Can you help with this problem?
