Requesting more space for baltix-members PPA (Custom packages for Ubuntu derivative distro)

Asked by Mantas Kriaučiūnas

Hi, we're working on custom, Ubuntu-based operating system for people, living in the Baltic region (see https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DerivativeTeam/Derivatives/Baltix for more info). We are using Launchpad PPA since the start of PPA service and now space becomes a problem again - we copied openoffice.org 3.0.1 (for Hardy) and 3.1 (for Jaunty) packages from http://launchpad.net/~openoffice-pkgs to our repository (after testing these new OOo packages) and now we can't upload any new packages to baltix-members PPA :(
AFAIK packages, copied without rebuilding from other PPA don't use extra space in launchpad.net servers - they are just linked, right ? So, real size of our archive is about 400Mb, but copied openoffice.org and tuxpaint packages "steal" hundreds megabytes of space from our PPA...

As such, baltix-members PPA has grown to over 4 gigabytes, currently we are testing and backporting some new packages from Jaunty in our private PPA's, so, it would be nice if we were able to put new packages to official baltix-members PPA after testing (aprox. 2009-09-23):

https://launchpad.net/~baltix-members/archive/ppa

We need at least 6 Gb space in baltix-members PPA, as we should support 2 versions - Hardy and Jaunty, some schools and universities in Lithuania uses Hardy, some - Jaunty..
If you can, please give us 8 GB - it would be easier for our users to have most useful packages in one repository instead of manually adding several repositories (like new OpenOffice.org versions from openoffice-pkgs repo or newest tuxpaint versions) from ppa.launchpad.net

Hi Mantas,

Your quota is 4 GiB.

For the record, PPA don't share the pool/ with other and we currently do not run `dsync` (hardlink identical files) across PPAs, so binary copies from other PPAs still eating your quota. Maybe we should, but I haven't thought about possible side-effects yet, but doing it apparently makes quota-checks a lot more complicated then they are atm.
