other Chinese languages for translation

Asked by Josh Kuo

I would like to help with translating Traditional Chinese (ZH_TW), but I do not see that as a language preferance, I only see ZH_HK as the the option.

How can I add ZH_TW as my language preference?

Have you already run:
sudo apt-get install language-pack-zh language-support-zh language-pack-gnome-zh xfonts-intl-chinese xfonts-intl-chinese-big

This will install the language packs, support for the languages and fonts.

After this you can set your language preferences by editing in your languages preferences or by editing /etc/environment manually. This will require a reboot.

By the way, you can also select your language at login time.

I am sorry, I must have not phrased my question well. I know how to get ZH_TW on my ubuntu machine. I am trying to help with translation on the launchpad.net website, to help translate English packages to include ZH_TW local text. While searching for projects in need of translation, I can only filter my results by ZH_HK, and I was wondering if there are any projects in need of ZH_TW translations.

Thank you so much for your response.

This may be a feature request for the Launchpad team then, but I'll give it one more shot for you.

I know in Launchpad Translations it's listed as "Traditional Chinese" as a filter (check box) instead of up by Chinese because of the alphabetical listing. It's all the way at the bottom. This sometimes can cause confusion and a quick miss because it's not by Chinese (where you expect it to be).

Otherwise I will let this alone and leave it up to a language specialist or the Launchpad team.

I hope I got helped and if not I'm sorry I could not be of more help.

Sincerely,

Craig

Thank you for pointing this out, I swear I looked down there but I didn't see it. I am sorry for taking up your time.

Don't be sorry, you're already a *lot* more responsive and polite than any commercial help desk I have ever experienced :-)

Good luck in your endeavors and you're already giving back to the Ubuntu community in ways I can't. That's +9,000 in my book.

Keep up the great work.

Cheers,

Craig
