I'll be happy to do that, but nevertheless a quick question first: I see b2evolution is currently assigned to the Ubuntu translation group. Have you considered using the new Launchpad translation group instead?

I see no benefit in using the new Launchpad translation group.
What I want to do is, assign certain people (or a team) to a given language, so that they are responsible for the translations. Others can make suggestions, but it should get reviewed by the maintainer for this language of the b2evolution translation.

I see that the Launchpad translation group (https://help.launchpad.net/Translations/LaunchpadTranslators) would have the benefit to attract more people doing the translation, but I fear that those might not be aware of the application itself.
Additionally, it might be too complex for somebody maintaining a translation to join another team, just for that, is it?

I would be glad, if it could be solved using an existing team - please tell me what maintainers of a current .po would have to do to still have the last word.

Thanks.

Hi Daniel,

In a large translation team there is the risk of people not knowing the application, but there would be still some common string, easy to understand and translate.

As a translator I don't want to join 100 teams in order to translate 100 projects. Also the idea is to create a group of good translators. They could work as a team in improving theirs skils of the skils of new translators.

Those are the main thinks I like The Gnome Translation Project. As a member of a GNOME translation team I can translate many applications and there are always other people to review my work. Also withing a translation team there are person responsible for a certain package, but it they are inactive for some time, it is easy for someone else to continue the translation.

In my view, a person willing to translate and coordinate b2evolution could join the Lauchpad Translator group for his/her language and translate b2evolution and ask for help or review from other members. It is always good to have a second person reviewing your translations, even if he/she is not an expert in b2evolution.

Right now Launchpad Translators is at it's start so the persons willing to translate b2evolution could start a Launchpad Translation team for his/her language.

You could also start a separate team/teams for b2evolution, but from my point of view, by doing so, you will have an exclusive translation tream, and you will reduce the project exposure to new translators.

Also if for some languages you don't have a b2evoltution coordinator you could just leave the translation open and don't import those translations into the trunk. You will not vouch for those translation, but people could export and use them on their own risk.

Cheers,

Thanks Adi, I think I'll try the Launchpad Translators approach then first.
Having more translators involved is a great thing for sure.

Thanks.
