Best Practice: Renaming translation templates

Asked by Mario Kemper (Romario)

After renaming our project (see https://answers.launchpad.net/launchpad/+question/59124) I am now wondering how to rename the translation templates. Is there any best practice here?

In fact i want to rename the template (and all .po or .mo file when downloading) from gscrot to shutter:
https://translations.launchpad.net/shutter

Additionally we have the plugins template at https://translations.launchpad.net/gscrot-plugins-bash. Is it possible to have two templates at one place (https://translations.launchpad.net/shutter)?

Thanks in advance. Keep up the good work.

Greetings
Mario

I've renamed them for you. You can have more than one template, but you need to be careful when you do it. Once you upload it, let me know and I'll approve it.

Thanks, Данило Шеган.
Renaming the template worked pretty well.

I want to move the template "gscrot-plugins-bash" from https://translations.launchpad.net/gscrot-plugins-bash to https://translations.launchpad.net/shutter and rename it to "shutter-plugins". At the end translators don't have to keep their attention on two different places / url.
I don't know how "to be careful" when i do it. Maybe you can help here to do the migration because the template already is approved, it just needs to be moved.

Thanks in advance.

Greetings
Mario

Oops, just wanted to mark the first answer as "solved" ... second question is still open.

OK, I moved the template to shutter-plugins in shutter/trunk. You should probably request the removal of the old project (Open a new question for that here) or put a note on the project page where the stuff went.

"To be careful" means that now that you have multiple templates for your project series shutter/trunk you will need to take care where you are uploading translations to, so they don't end up in the wrong template. To help you with this I changed the "orignial" file names that are stored with your templates.

shutter/shutter.pot
shutter-plugins/shutter-plugins.pot

For a successful upload put all the po files named like the country code (de.po, fr.po, etc.) in the same directory as the template they belong to.

shutter/shutter.pot
shutter/de.po
shutter/fr.po

Then make a tarball of the whole directory (tar czf shutter.tar.gz shutter) and upload that tarball. This way the new po files can be associated correctly with the right template. Same goes for the other template. You can also put both directories in one tarball and update all translations at the same time. The upload URL is this:

https://translations.launchpad.net/shutter/trunk/+translations-upload
