Bluez-gnome in intrepid/jaunty is using the translation template from hardy.

Asked by Tomasz Dominikowski

I have indicated this problem before, but it has not been resolved yet.

The problem is that for some reason, in Intrepid in Jaunty, the bluez-gnome applet is using the translation template from Hardy.

There are a few hints that this is true:

1) Despite the fact that the applet is fully translated and has been long before the release of Intrepid, let alone Jaunty, the only translated strings that are displayed translated are those from the 0.xx series of bluez-gnome (Hardy and earlier).

This is true for at least my (Polish) language.

2) The official project at https://translations.launchpad.net/bluez-gnome shows available distribution translations at the bottom of the page, but neither Intrepid or Jaunty are mentioned.

The template is called "bluetooth-manager" instead of just "bluez-gnome" on the list, which is confusing and might be another hint as to why the template has not been properly updated.

This is a very prominent piece of software and there is no way to translate the very basic interface entries in Intrepid or Jaunty. By that I mean that the translation has been completed a long time ago, but it not displayed. As you may understand, this is a frustrating situation for both the translators (it's not our fault) and the users (they blame translators). I've waited for the dust of Intrepid's release to settle long enough and it's time to raise this matter once again.

Addendum:
The upstream tarball does not have the full translation and that's how it shows up in Ubuntu. The translation has since then been completed for both Ubuntu and upstream, but hasn't been picked up yet by either and should have been by Ubuntu at least. Why? The last change of translation in the Ubuntu project is 17th November 2008, last translation synchronization/update for Ubuntu Intrepid is 15th December 2008. This is in main.

It seems that the missing link to Intrepid and Jaunty on the project translation page are a separate problem. I just reported that as bug 322312. We're still trying to figure out what else happened.

When I export and compare the templates, I don't see any substantial differences between the ones in:

1. the upstream project, https://translations.launchpad.net/bluez-gnome/trunk/+pots/bluetooth-manager

2. the Jaunty package, https://translations.launchpad.net/bluez-gnome/trunk/+pots/bluetooth-manager

3. a fresh rebuild from the package, as Martin kindly provided to me at http://people.ubuntu.com/~pitti/tmp/ (may go away soon).

On the other hand, all of these do have a lot of differences with the Hardy version. Where would the extra strings come from?

Can you help with this problem?
