New translation group

Asked by Lukáš Lalinský

Hi, can you please create a new translation group "MusicBrainz Translators"? It will be primarily for the MusicBrainz Picard project, but eventually maybe also for other MusicBrainz projects. Thank you.

Lukas

Hi Lukáš,

What is the main reason you can not use an existing translation group?

Here is a list with already created translation groups:
https://translations.edge.launchpad.net/+groups

I suggest to assign your translation to Launchpad Translators group or Ubuntu Translators groups

Launchpad Translators is an emerging groups and we want in the near future to make it the main group.
Ubuntu Translators is an very active translation groups with translations export for many languages.

Cheers,
Adi

We are currently using the Ubuntu Translators group, but from my experience most of people in the group are new Ubuntu users trying to help. Unfortunatelly, it is not possible to do correct translation without being familiar with the product you are translating. I wanted to keep using LP for maintaining translations, but restrict the access to the translations to people I know will translate the application correctly. I'd rather have less supported languages, but only correct translations. I initially thought I can use regular LP groups but this, but I found out that I can't.

Translations groups are groups of teams, where each language has appointed a team.

I understand your concern. Can you try to assing the translations to Launchpad Translators group.

I hope we can work togheter in making this group useful for you. Your feedback will be much appreciated.

By having sparse translations teams, scattered across various project will not help us improve translations quality.
Free software is a huge eco-system with interactions between various projects.

My sugestions is to encourage MusicBrainz translators expert to join a translation team for their language and help other translators understand MusicBrainz specific problems.

In my opion, rather than having one german team for translating audio applications, another german team for translating video applications, one german team for translating network applications, it will be of much more help to have a single german team containing translators experts for each domain.

What do you say?

I'm not saying you should not use a special translation group.

I'm trying to improve the translation process and It looks like in your case there was a communication problem between the Ubuntu translators for a certain language and your translator experts.

You can still use a wider translation group for your project and just delete/deny translators for languages for which you dont have a translator expert.

Cheers,
Adi
