How soon will new translations be "published"?

Asked by Gias Kay Lee

Hello there,

I have a question. If I make some translation contributes to Ubuntu, when would I be able to see these translations be made available to everyone around the world through software updates? Namely, how often does Ubuntu updates its translation packages? Is it on a daily basis, or we need to wait for the new version that comes only in half-a-year's time?

Thanks in advance,

Gias Kay

Theoreticaly new language packs should be released in the main repository once every month.

As far as I know there are some problems with releasing this packages and this is why lately they were not released so often.

I know that a new Hardy language pack release will be done soon.

Here is the official information: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/TranslationLifecycle

For the development release, langpack-o-matic uploads updates directly into the main archive twice a week.

For stable, on every first Monday of a month, the current PPA packages are copied to -proposed for all currently supported stable releases. Then a call for testing is announced to the [https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-translators ubuntu-translators mailing list]. After getting some positive feedback (and no problem reports), the packages are copied to -updates after at least a week.
