Launchpad allows social networking spam through

Asked by Mary Gardiner

The Bebo spam at https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libflashsupport/+bug/183917/comments/85 and https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libflashsupport/+bug/183917/comments/86 is clearly more Bebo's fault than Launchpad's, but all the same I would prefer not to receive invites through Launchpad to random sites every time someone gives a site their address book.

The comments listed should be deleted. I think the user had a momentary lapse of control of his account because he was responsible in a lot of other activities.

The reported comments can be removed. The user can be suspended.

I am not quite sure why this is now a question, or what you think my question actually is. Can you clarify?

In addition, the answer is in the passive voice, so a few more questions:
1. if the comments can be removed, who removes them?
2. if the user can be suspended, who suspends them?
and
3. is there any way that I as a user of Launchpad can report comments for suspension or users for removal? If not, then how are spamming users identified?

Curtis: I have an additional question about the refiling too. The original bug was "Launchpad allows social networking spam through". Do you consider that fact a bug or not? (whether or not it is a fixable bug is a separate issue.)

Refiling the bug as a question implies that you don't think there's a bug here, but it's weird not to say so explicitly.

(I'm clicking the "Add Information Request" button as that seems less inappropriate than "Add Answer", but neither button seems applicable to this sort of meta-discussion. Where's the "Add Comment" button?)

Hmm, I didn't mean to change the status, I just wanted to add a comment.

Mary. Launchpad Answers is the place for reporting spam and bad users. Those questions are assigned to members of the launchpad admin team. That person can remove comments from bugs and questions. He can suspend users. There is not automated process for users, developers, or admins to manage this.

I see that the comment have not been deleted, I will ask an admin to do so. We need to talk to ~zorkerz, to understand his momentary lapse of reason.

bugs 45419, bug 114820, bug 115322 describe the spam problem and the conversations have proposed solutions. I converted this bug into a question instead of marking it as a duplicate because the admins require a question to track the issue.

Can you help with this problem?

Provide an answer of your own, or ask Mary Gardiner for more information if necessary.
