How do I create new folders in Open Office?

Asked by wabbit

I would like to create a number of new folders but not through the "Save As" function. The problem with "Save As" in Open Office, is that it forces me to save a file to the new folder in order to create the new folder. I have a long list of folders I want to create and would prefer to be able to make them without filling them until later.

I don't know if i understand your problem, but why not use a file manager (e.g. nautilus) for that? It is accesible through top panel menu location and there you can create/delete/rename folders. But if you like you can create folders through the "Save As" function in Open Office (and any other program) without saving a file. Use "Create Folder" as often as you like, then press "Cancel". The folders remain on your system.

Thank you for your reply. I'm not familiar with nautilus or how to acquire or use a file manager, and was hoping to find out that Open Office would have these features. Also, the method you describe for creating a folder does not work with my Open Office. I tried, hoping that it would work, but it doesn't. If I do not save a file at the same time as creating a folder, then no folder is actually created. If I save a file in order to create a folder (Save As, then Create Folder), the file is saved into the new folder but also remains in the old location, as a duplicate file. And I have no way of deleting the duplicate. More help???

You really should consider to use a file manager. Thats what a file manager is made for: create, delete, rename and move files and folders. And its quite simple. You can open it through the places menu.
