Translation group creation request: LottaNZB

Asked by Severin H

I'm a core developer of the LottaNZB project (https://launchpad.net/lottanzb) and we've had a discussion about how to manage the project's translations and keep in touch with our translators. Would you mind creating a translation group for this project called "LottaNZB Translators" owned by the "LottaNZB Development Team" (https://launchpad.net/~lottanzb)?

We intend to ask those translators who have contributed substantial parts to a certain translation, whether they're interested in acting as supervisors for their language. We might also consider creating a separate translation team.

For the moment, we'd rather not like to assign LottaNZB to the Ubuntu translation group.

Regards,
Severin

Hi Severin,

Thank you very much for you interest in using Launchpad Translations, for translating your project.

What are your main concerns for not appointing Ubuntu Translators for doing translations for your project?
Is not that I suggest you should appoing Ubuntu Translators, it's just that we would like to improve translations groups and your feedback is very helpful.

I think you should be able to create a new group and assign it for doing translations. If not we should wait one of rosetta admins to do it.

Hi Adi,

I don't have anything against the Ubuntu translation group (they do a great job actually!).

I'm quite sure that most of the people who have made substantial contributions to the LottaNZB translation use the application themselves. Only a fraction of them are members of Ubuntu translation teams. With the "Structured" policy, they couldn't do more than suggest translations and if this is not announced to the translation team members, the suggestions are likely to get lost in the vast Rosetta database.

It's just that I'd like to make it as easy as possible to start translating LottaNZB into a new language. However, to assert quality and completeness of translations, it sounds like a good idea to group those LottaNZB users who have already made a substantial contribution and are willing to spend some minutes reviewing suggestions and bringing the bar to 100% before a release. This way, we would know who to speak to one or two weeks before a major release.

Regards,
Severin

PS: Just noticed that it's possible to use the "Open" policy and still assign a project to a translation group. What about assigning LottaNZB to Ubuntu Tanslators and ask major contributors, whether they would like to be informed about new strings one or two weeks before a major release? We could still create an informal translation team for this purpose.

If I had known that assigning a project to the Ubuntu translation group doesn't mean that the right to edit translations is exclusively transfered its members, I would have waited before making this request. Sorry for not being better informed.

Now, as there is a translation group for LottaNZB, we'll see how things go. If it doesn't work out, we can still reassign the project.
