How do You ensure quality of translations?

Asked by Tiefflieger

Hi,

I just started to wonder how You ensure quality of the translations on launchpad. In detail, I mean things like
- spelling
(sorry I have no example, but I mean different spelling of the same word)
- synonyms
(different words for same things, e.g. "buy" and "purchase")
- homonyms
(same words for different things, e.g. "bow", which can mean the thing you can shoot arrows with or the opposite of stern)
- redundancies
(to give in different dialogs the same information again and again. But thats rather software-specific, I suppose)
- many other things I can't think of right now

Actually I think the translation of e.g. Ubuntu is really good, I just wonder why ;)

It's up to translation teams to decide on this, and Launchpad as of yet doesn't provide any facilities to help with that.

Basically, it has to be done externally to Launchpad itself.

Ubuntu translation is good mostly due to upstream translations which have a good set of external procedures in place. Launchpad is just a tool (at the moment) which you can use to put those procedures most effectively to use.
