Why do some bugs come from Launchpad and others from the OP?

Asked by Jonathan Lange

Hey guys,

I get a lot of bug mail. I've been noticing that recently, much of it is coming from "Launchpad Bug Tracker" and giving little or no clue as to the actual human being that filed bug.

This seems to be particularly the case with bugs filed against launchpad-bazaar. I can't tell for certain, but it seems to be affecting all bugs there and no bugs on bzr. What's going on?

Can you put a few examples with full headers in pastes so we can figure
it out?

These are two different kinds of notifications - one is sent to you when you become a subscriber to a bug, the other when a new bug is reported. The former comes from the bug, the latter from the bug reporter.

I have a feeling that I'm stating the obvious, though...

Not really: I didn't explicitly subscribe to either bug. As best as I can tell, I'm getting these bug mails because I want all bug mail for launchpad-bazaar. The only difference between them is that one was mailed to Launchpad and the other was submitted through the web.

This smells like a bug to me.i

I don't think so, though the notification is confusing (there's a bug filed on it). If you look at https://bugs.edge.launchpad.net/launchpad-bazaar/+bug/297398/+activity you'll see this was first filed against Launchpad Itself. When it was changed to being in l-b is when you get (implicitly) subscribed and that's when you get that confusing mail.

I've filed https://bugs.edge.launchpad.net/malone/+bug/299282, since I couldn't find the bug you mention Kiko.

Thanks everyone for helping me figure this out!
