what is the source code called please.?

I have limited knowledge of the source codes visual basic, and other M.S.. The early days with DOS and the command line to me was the easy way. Vista has almost taking away any control. It is a disaster. I assume this is a Linux variant. What source code is used please? If so, where can I down load it.? Also I wish to get some knowledge of the code it self. Thank you

Ubuntu is a Linux distribution. You can download it by visiting http://www.ubuntu.com/getubuntu/download or
visit https://shipit.ubuntu.com/ to get free CDs.

Once you get Ubuntu installed, if you want to look at the source code for one of the packages, you can get to it through Launchpad.
