Is it legal to keep a repository of data files (images, animation, music) in launchpad? The widelands project (or any other game) would strongly rely on this feature.

Content which is under an approved open source license can be stored on Launchpad free of charge.

We also have a commercial plan for projects that don't fall under a qualifying license. If you register a project and select the Other/Proprietary license, you will see an option for purchasing a subscription on the main page for your project.
