Still planning to release the code?

Asked by David Fraser

A few years ago when Ubuntu launched using launchpad, there were statements that the code was going to be released as a free software project, some time in the future.
With the launch of launchpad.net, I thought this may have been done, but it appears not to have.
Do you guys still have that intention, or has it been abandoned? What's the likely timescale

Aha! I've seen https://code.launchpad.net/faq which says you are planning... Can I guess 2009 or is that too early?
Surely making the code generally available is a good free software principle - "release early, release often" - that way outsiders can do what they want without asking permission to get access first (asking permission is more like Shared Source from another world of thought...)

While the code will be released eventually, there's no definite date for it.
