need software assistance

I am from Sri Lanka working as computer instructor at a Computer Resource Center (CRC) in remote district. We devote to improve computer literacy among students in the area. Therefore we would like to use Linux as operating system instead of Windows, but our knowledge about Linux is very poor.
So please be kind enough to help us regarding this matter.
