merge account: email unreachable after project merge in Alioth and deactivation of old project and mailing-list

Asked by Nicolas Spalinger

Various font packages have the Alioth pkg-ofl-fonts-devel mailing-list in the maintainer field.

This team has now merged with the Alioth pkg-fonts team and the policy is now to put the Alioth list only in uploader and have the actual maintainer be in the maintainer field.

The pkg-ofl-fonts project and list has been deactivated, so the address is not reachable anymore. The pkg-ofl-fonts-devel launchpad user needs to be merged with my account so that work on maintaining these packages can continue.

Thanks.

Can you clarify what merging that account with yours would accomplish? I get the impression that what you want is to define a team with that contact email address so it gets attributed properly to new package uploads. Is that the case?

Thank you for your answer. Let me clarify what the merge will accomplish.

I am maintaining these packages (ttf-sil- abyssinica, ttf-sil-doulos, ttf-sil-charis) with Daniel Glassey in upstream Debian and the SIL repositories. The maintainers fields for these packages is currently the pkg-ofl-fonts-devel Alioth list linked to the project, with Daniel and me in the Uploaders field. We used the pkg-ofl-fonts Alioth project but now this team has merged with the pkg-fonts team. The former Alioth project has been deactivated along with the mailing-list so the email currently in the Maintainer field is not available anymore. The policy in the pkg-fonts team is for the Maintainer fields to correspond to the maintainer and for the mailing-list address to be in uploaders.

In the Ubuntu archive these packages are synced from Debian. With the Debian freeze we are waiting before uploading so I need this account merge to correct the Maintainer field in Ubuntu with a reachable address.

Is that clear?

Sorry, we can't solve this until the bug linked here is fixed. That's
scheduled for 1.1.8, though I can try pulling it back into July if the
SSO work goes well.

Hum, I see. We will do new uploads to Debian of new versions of these packages under co-maintainership via the Alioth pkg-fonts project. Then Ubuntu can sync with the proper attribution.

OK, so the upload to Debian of newer version and the Ubuntu syncs have happened. The https://launchpad.net/~pkg-ofl-fonts-devel account can go. Thanks.

Rather packaged currently assigned to the old account should go the fonts team https://launchpad.net/~fonts which is a mirror of the Debian team.

Hi there. Since the original email address of that list is no longer operational, to finish this process, I need somebody to give me an email address that I can use to trigger a validation for https://edge.launchpad.net/~pkg-ofl-fonts-devel/+editemails -- once you validate that email, we can then merge the claimed team into the ~fonts team.

Hi Christian. Not exactly sure what you mean by validation. I'll send you an email directly.

Funnily enough, we've recreated this team when the next upload came in: https://edge.launchpad.net/%7Epkg-ofl-fonts-devel/

Is this causing a problem? If so, there's another bug we need to fix: bug 156340

Well yes it's not ideal.
LP should really have a way to match up Debian/Alioth team-maintained package with the corresponding Ubuntu team. Thanks.

Hah. I finally managed to do this today. I had to hack, maim and punch the DB (via Herb) but it accepted it in the end. Enjoy!
