Why can't I edit my postings?

Hi,

just a short question: I was wondering why it isn't possible to edit my own posts. Or at least it would be nice if I could edit my posts as long as noone wrote something in that bug after me.

Launchpad does not permit any user (or administrator) to edit postings. The issue comes up from time to time because it is a nuisance for all of us. We do not want to give anyone the right to create a revised history--the original comment is also an email message, a comment pushed to an upstream bugtracker, and possibly an entry in a feed.

There is some discussion of the matter on bug 80895.

I figured that there's a good reason for that...
(I'd rather like to argue here than in a 'Bug' ;-) , but nevertheless...)
