Asked by Ricardo Martins

Hi all!

We are developing a project and would like to get it into launchpad.
We would like to make it under license

Creative Commons
CC-NC-ND closed source (open-source only for development team).
We would like to know if you accept it.

Sincerely,

Ricardo.

Hi Ricardo,

Thanks for your interest in using Launchpad. I have reviewed the CC-NC-ND license here: http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/2.0/deed.en

Launchpad's licensing requirements for open source hosted projects are explained at https://help.launchpad.net/Legal/ProjectLicensing

Since the license you request does not pass the discrimination test (no commercial use) or the modification test (no derivatives) I'm afraid a project under that license will not qualify for free hosting on Launchpad.

For commercial projects and those that have restrictive licenses we do offer the use of Launchpad through a subscription model that is priced at US$250/year/project (plus applicable VAT for EU residents).

Best of luck with your project and feel free to contact me if we can be of assistance.

As you can see on this page : https://help.launchpad.net/Legal/ProjectLicensing , Launchpad can only be used (free of charge) to host free (as in freedom) software project, what your project isn't.

Thanks for your reply.

I do read the Launchpad's licensing requirements before posting.

My question is: Even if we use another license, it should always grant the right to use the source code and modify it by others, right? Like a GPL based license.

Many thanks for your time.

Yes, that's right. Any license that allows use and modification and redistribution, without discriminating on the user, is fine.
