Deleted personal account to create team account but name locked?

Asked by Dan

I recently deleted a personal account I had created so that I could recreate it as a team account. Now the the name is locked when i try to create it as a team account citing it as "already in use by another person or team." but I "permanently deleted" the matching personal account so how can I reclaim the name as a team account?

Thanks!

What's the username in question? We can free it up for you.

However, you should not, in general, be creating a "team account". Instead create an actual team at https://launchpad.net/people/+newteam to which you can add people or other teams as members. A team can be used in almost any situation that a person can, and its members can exercise the privileges of the team.

Thanks for the quick reply @William, very much appreciate the help.

You're correct I misspoke creating an actual team is what I was trying to do. The team name is 'syscoin' if you could free it up I'd very much appreciate it.

In the process of releasing that name I somehow messed up my primary account, every time I login I get the message "An Error Occurred" and a white page. The username on the personal account with the error is 'dwasyluk' not sure if you can remediate the error, I had to create a second personal account because the error prevents use of my primary account.

Thanks again!

Correction- the username on the personal account with error shows as 'dwasyluk' with email 'dwasyluk@gmail'. The personal account I'm using now seems to have the same username.

Things are a bit messy because the old ~syscoin Launchpad account has the same email address as your new Ubuntu One account. ~syscoin can't be trivially deleted because it has a PPA and an OpenPGP key and such attached.

What might be best is for me to delete the PPA, move the other things from ~syscoin over to ~dwasyluk, and then fix up your new Ubuntu One account to match. Then you can recreate ~syscoin as a team. Does that sound reasonable to you?

Hi William,

Your suggested approach of moving everything to ~dwasyluk so I could then recreate ~syscoin as a team sounds perfect. If you could let me know once I'm clear to recreate the team I'd very much appreciate that.

I want to thank you for your help in this matter, you've really been a lifesaver as that team account is very important to our project!

Thanks again
Dan

Any updates on this issue? Would hate to have to push our clients to pulling resources from our personal accounts rather than a proper team account. Thank you for your help!
