Import of translation template - how long does this take?

Asked by Hans Engel

I uploaded my .pot file for my project 3 days ago, and it still is sitting in the queue, with the status 'Needs Review'. How long does it usually take for these files to be approved? The template is quite small - about 100 strings. Is there any way I can help out to speed up this process?

If this is a new template (or one that has been renamed, or one in a product release series that didn't have that template yet) then it will be held for manual review. We review those once a week, normally on Monday. After that, newer versions of the template should go in automatically.

Translations should also go in automatically, though they will be held for review if:

 * It's not clear to the system which template the translation is for. If you only have one template, this won't be a problem but there are things you can do to make things go more smoothly if you have multiple templates.

 * It's not clear to the system what language a translation file is for. To prevent this, name each translation file after its language code: it.po for Italian, tr.po for Turkish, ka.po for Georgian, zh_CN for Simplified Chinese, and so on.

 * The language code is ambiguous. This happens a lot when filenames include unnecessary country codes. BAD: it_IT.po, pt_PT.po, nb_NO.po. GOOD: it.po, pt.po, nb.po. The only cases where you want the country code are for pt_BR (Brazilian Portuguese), zh_CN/zh_TW (Simplified/Traditional Chinese, there is no "default" Chinese), and variants of English (in practice usually just en_GB for English as spoken in the United Kingdom).

It seems like my translation for US English - named 'en_US.po' - should have gone through automatically, no? I only have one template uploading right now, so I'm not sure why it wasn't automatic.

Also - was it not done on Monday this week? My template was in there yesterday, so it might have been missed.

en_US is a bit of an exception. We don't normally support translation to this language. If the source language is British English, for example, we generally assume that American users will be able to understand it.

(Sorry about the delay in approving imports; there were other pressing matters once again and I only got around to it very late in the day).
