Out of the box, Internet Explorer will not run because it is designed to run with proprietary technologies unique to the Windows platform.

However, it is possible to run Windows software in Ubuntu using a system known as Wine, which basically adapts those technologies in an open source way for Linux. At this point, it even adds Windows software to your main menu, which is really cool. To install Wine, in your main menu go to Applications, Add / Remove.
