Um, sorry for letting this expire. Now there's a mirror of the bzr-mirror.gnome.org branch is there a need for a ~vcs-imports branch too?

Yes... it's the Gentoo releng not Gnome - they have one too you know :)

I have created a new import request, see https://code.launchpad.net/releng. I thought I have done this before but can't find it anywhere, strange.

The Gnome branch has to be removed.

As in are the Gentoo and Gnome projects the same? Or are they two quite different projects that happen to have the same name?

The two branches are for different projects. They just happen to have the same name - but are otherwise completely unrelated.
