PLD Linux: distroseries

Asked by Patryk Zawadzki

Re-asking as the last question expired twice:

How do we set up distro versions so we can have 3 separate lines of development and 3 separate drivers? There is no link in the actions menu and a search in Launchpad bugs pointed me to https://edge.launchpad.net/pld-linux/+addseries which gives a 403 Forbidden.

If this feature is considered experimental - could an LP admin add the versions manually?

I need this information for each series to create them for you:

    Name
    Display name
    Title
    Summary
    Description
    Version

Once I have that I'll go ahead and create them.

Ok then, here we go (not sure what is the difference between name and display name):

Name: Ra
Title: PLD Ra
Version: 1.0
Description: Old stable release from November, 2002. End-of-lined.

Name: Ac
Title: PLD Ac
Version: 2.0
Description: Stable line, released in April, 2007

Name: Titanium
Title: PLD Titanium
Version: N/A
Description: Titanium is an unofficial version of PLD created and managed by Hawk. It is based on PLD 2.0 (Ac) and incorporates more up to date software from PLD 3.0 (Th). Architectures are limited to 586, 686 and x86_64. Titanium will be "always in developement" distribution. Drastic changes and big upgrades are to be expected from time to time (notifications will be available on Hawks blog). Nevertheless main goal for Titanium will be stability.

Name: Th
Title: PLD Th
Version: 3.0
Description: Currently in development. This is the most up-to-date distribution line and is already in use on numerous desktop machines and servers.

Mostly done:

  https://edge.launchpad.net/pld-linux/ra
  https://edge.launchpad.net/pld-linux/ac
  https://edge.launchpad.net/pld-linux/th
  https://edge.launchpad.net/pld-linux/titanium

Some caveats:

  * I need to own them for now. This could change, but give me some time -- you're the first distribution I register a release for!
  * We require a version number. I've used 0.23 for titanium, but that's probably not the right thing.
  * I don't think you can actually use them for anything. But one step at a time :-)

Big thanks. It appears I can actually edit their details. Didn't try to report bugs for series themselves.

Could you change Titanium version to 2.1?

Should we get in trouble using the series, should I post further questions to admins or report bugs? If the latter, I'll mark this as solved.

Updated titanium's version. Yes, sure -- just post questions and report bugs. I don't think you'll be able to report bugs targeted to series, but hey, try it out and let me know! :)

You are right. We are unable to target bugs for series. That kind of renders them useless (as we are RPM-based, we can't use them for uploading packages). What are LP's plans regarding series?

You're supposed to be able to target bugs against them, at least. Are you unable to access, for instance, https://bugs.edge.launchpad.net/pld-linux/+bug/217160/+nominate

Ooh! That works. Thanks! Closing the question for now. Will file bugs and requests in the future as needed. Hope we can get the bugzilla migrated some other day.
