Spam and Online shaming

Asked by Charles Peters II

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ifupdown/+bug/1375821/comments/13

This comment says nothing other than pointing to the person's twitter account and in my opinion it is spam. It appears to be a form of online shaming and not an appropriate way of helping resolve a hard to reproduce bug.

It's not pleasant, but it's also not totally abusive. It's not doing much harm.

I didn't describe it as abusive, it's spam. Is spam allowed on Launchpad?

If spam is allowed, I'll probably start unsubscribing from package bug reports.

In what way is it spam? It's related to the conversation.

Perhaps Twitter's interface is confusing you in some way? It's not just a link to a random person's Twitter account; it's a link to a particular tweet (apparently from the same person who wrote the bug comment linking to it) complaining about Canonical's slow response to this same bug.

I think it would be a very bad look for Canonical to ban somebody from our bug tracking system because of them complaining on another forum about Canonical's slow response to a bug and linking to it from Launchpad. We would do it if it were spam or clearly abusive, but as far as I can see this is neither.

Can you help with this problem?
