Number of plural forms supported by Launchpad is insufficient

Asked by Seán de Búrca

I recently tried to import an updated Irish translation for gnome-terminal as I saw that the previous attempt had failed. I received an email saying it had failed because Launchpad could not support more than four plural forms. This is insufficient for Irish. There is ongoing debate within the Irish translation community but current practice uses five. Both the GNU and Launchpad plural forms are incorrect as a result but probably shouldn't be changed until a decision has been reached. Is it possible to see a solution to this before Hardy is released?

Hi Sean,

The plural form limit is being increased from 4 to 6 in the next release, which should fix the problem (see bug 189890 for details, if you want to track the progress). This probably doesn't leave much time before the Hardy release.

Once the change does go live, there shouldn't be a technical reason why 5-form Irish translations can't be handled. If the community wants to use 5-form translations though, it'd be worth thinking about how to migrate old data though.

Can you help with this problem?
