As far as I know, nothing. I guess it's a form of "payment" that recognizes work done in Launchpad. If anyone ever wanted a quick way to measure effort (like for becoming an Ubuntu member maybe) your karma would be one such way. Other than that I really don't know. It would be cool if you could trade karma for free Ubuntu stuff :)
