I selected 'issue affects me' but didn't get emails

I marked bug 1169984 as 'this issue affects me', but didn't get any email notifications for that bug after that.

During that time, I did get a notification for bug 736743, which I had previously marked as 'this issue affects me'.

736743 says 'You are subscribed to all notifications for this bug', but 1169984 says 'You are not directly subscribed to this bug's notifications.'

I thought the 'You are subscribed to all notifications for this bug' used to turn on automatically when I marked a bug as 'affects me'. Am I remembering right? Has something changed about this?

You need to subscribe to the bug not just mark yourself as affected.
