mlt to fix kdenlive ?

I am not good at programming. I realize there are many other reports of kdenlive crashes, but I have been unable to send bug reports or get answers specific to my own kdenlive crashes. I am not sure if I need to create a project in launchpad. I was following the advice of people on similar projects and the trail of clues keeps leading me here.
I seem to have successfully installed kdenlive 0.9.6, However,
the installation of mlt-0.8.8 does not place required files in the correct /usr directories.
I am trying to find the mlt version that will work with kdenlive 0.9.6. I realize this is an usupported version, but all the supported versions have stopped working for me although they were doing fine for the last 7 months.
