Please enable PowerPC on my ppa

Asked by ojordan

Hello,

Would it be possible to enable PowerPC on my ppa? I've seen similar requests for arm, but am not sure if this is possible for PowerPC? I want to start maintaining and distributing some PowerPC packages through Launchpad for Ubuntu Precise (12.04). Currently I'm having to do it through my UbuntuOne account which is not ideal.

I will not update the packages very frequently, although I do have quite a lot (around 70) I would like to initially upload which will take a few hours to compile (based on my ageing iBook). I can of course drip feed these on to limit the amount of processing time I take up if that is what you request. If you give me targets I will make sure I stick to them. Once they're built I don't currently envisage any further maintenance on them and they will not take any time up.

The ppa will contain things like the xorg-nv package which was dropped in the 11.10 cycle, although still works in 12.04 and is useful for those not able to use the nouveau driver.

This is my ppa:

https://launchpad.net/~ojordan12345/+archive/ppa

I don't want i386/amd64 enabled as I just want PowerPC packages.

Thanks in advance.

Hi this isn't possible to enable on your PPA, we only do this for groups that have contracts with Canonical.

Thanks for the answer, but does this only apply to PowerPC? Like I said in my original question, there are lots of examples of seemingly random people asking for arm to be enabled and it is always gets granted from what I can see. Seems a little unfair.

The ppa is not for my benefit (I already have the packages compiled), but to help others who are struggling. It's a bit much to ask somebody new to compile a package, but it is also not a very good example to ask them to install some random binary from somebody's random ubuntuone account.

Is there anyway you would reconsider or can you suggest how another PowerPC ppa could be formed by a group of Launchpad members?

With regards to ARM there were a number of requests for it in the past and it's also something we could control as it's on virtualised machines . PowerPC is on non virtualised machines which means a build could in fact damage it, which is why we say no and only limit it to canonical employees or those we have contracts with.
