Launchpad assigned me a ppa key that is not unique

Asked by Philip Wyett on 2012-05-18

I import my key for my ppa and get two.

See:

http://keyserver.ubuntu.com:11371/pks/lookup?search=0x6DF3B6A3&fingerprint=on&hash=on&op=vindex

Is this an issue that can be fixed or worked around?

I can work around this by doing:

  sudo apt-key del dave beyda

However this is no good for users who may import by the normal method and wonder what is going on.

8-digit key ids are conveniently short, but as you have seen, they aren't necessarily unique.

The keyserver link that Launchpad provides on your PPA page uses the full fingerprint:

http://keyserver.ubuntu.com:11371/pks/lookup?search=0xFD4077886086FB78755849085524AA3E6DF3B6A3&op=index

and displays only the correct key.

You can also refer to it using a 16-digit key id - that also works:

http://keyserver.ubuntu.com:11371/pks/lookup?search=0x5524AA3E6DF3B6A3&op=index

Can you help with this problem?
