Updating packages from oneiric to precise series

Asked by Brian Bentsen

Complete rookie here and I couldn't find any info on the best procedure to create a Precise branch.

Do I just re-upload my packages with the top line in the changelog files saying "precise" instead of "oneiric"? Will that overwrite old oneiric uploads?

Are "precise" series packages backwards compatible with oneiric or does every new release require a separate branch of packages?

Can I just go on with the oneiric series and somehow make the PPA as a whole compatible with precise (without users having to edit the sources.list.d file)?

Read the section from the second "Important" under <https://help.launchpad.net/Packaging/PPA/Uploading#Using_packages_from_other_distributions>. Whether you need to rebuild depends on your package -- you'll have to work it out yourself.

Can you help with this problem?
