Need to know IP for CVS import

Asked by Ben Wheeler

Hi. I'm setting up to allow an import of the NDAD project from our CVS repo, but I'd rather not allow anonymous pserver access to the world, so can you tell me the IP address or range that will be doing the import so I can allow just that through the firewall? Thanks. Ben

Anyone? If I've asked this question in the wrong place, can someone direct me to the right one? Thanks.

Sorry for not giving a reply earlier, this is the right place to ask this question.

Since NDAD does not appear to be a free software project, we are not sure that it fits in the scope of the code import service. We will contact you privately to clarify the terms of use of the NDAD data and to look for the most appropriate solution for your needs.

Thanks for getting back to me.

I can see why you'd think that, but it is. Or rather, is becoming so.
Let me explain the situation.

NDAD is a digital archive of UK government datasets, which we
at ULCC have developed and operated for the past 10 years on
behalf of the National Archives.

We've recently won the contract to run the service for another
3-5 years. Under the terms of this new contract, we've agreed
with the National Archives that we will release all of the software
that we have written for the project as open source (GPLv2), and that
it will be deposited with a 3rd party open source repository.

Not all of this software would be useful to anyone else as-is,
though some may well be, and the package as a whole could be
interesting to anyone researching how to (or how not to!) operate
a digital archive.

This isn't expected to turn into a collaborative project, it's
more just a publication of our code for anyone to take a look at
(though of course we'll be delighted if patches start rolling in!).
If that makes it unsuitable for your site, please say and I'll take
it somewhere else. Would be a pity though, launchpad looks so much
nicer than sourceforge!

> contact you privately to clarify the terms of use of the NDAD data and

We're only releasing code here, not the data within the NDAD archive.

Hi Ben,

This is a totally appropriate use of launchpad, we're happy to publish your code for you. It was just a bit confusing at first because we are accustomed to seeing people who have already published their code.

Excellent, thanks.

So I could still do with an answer to the original question if possible :)
Also: since it seems importing from CVS is a manual process, will it
have to be repeated manually every time we want to update, or is it
the case that once it's set up you can automatically track our CVS changes
into your Bazaar repo?

Hi Ben,
The person that has that info has already left for the day as he is working from Europe, we'll be able to get this for you first thing in the morning.

The CVS import just needs to be manually approved, assuming that everything runs well we will automatically keep up to date with your repository every few hours.

cheers,
-elliot

It would be best to use the following range: 91.189.88.0/21

Thanks, Tom

Thanks Tom.
We're about halfway through audit so I reckon it'll be middle of next week by the time we're ready to harvest.
